Carcassonne

There are effectively two cities in Carcassonne: the medieval citadel known as 'La Cite', and the more modern 'Lower Town'. We spend our first evening in the old part, wandering through the tight laneways and enjoying spectacular views of this beautiful site.

The following morning I visit the chateau within the fortress and walk along the city walls.

We grab lunch on a charming street below the citadel, before strolling across the bridge into the new town.

We're in the heart of rugby country in France, so I take the opportunity to catch a game in the evening, but with a twist, as Carcassonne take on Pia in a Rugby League encounter.
