On Monday morning we left Carcassonne and headed towards our first "gîte", where we would be staying for 5 nights. With some rainy weather on the way during the week we took the opportunity to go for a fun (but tough!) walk to a suspension bridge near the medieval village of Hautpoul.

After threatening to rain for the full two hours we were walking, it finally started pouring 5 minutes before we got back to the car park, so we got to enjoy a soggy afternoon going for lunch, to a supermarket, and another 75 minute drive to our destination. Our host spoke only French so Mark ably translated everything he said about the accommodation (we hope!).
